Creative Writing for Beginners: Finding Your Voice on the Page

Join Art 145's resident artist John Bishop who is visiting all the way from Houston, TX to create and share art with our community.

This introductory creative writing class is designed to help new and seasoned writers gain confidence and generate fresh material in a supportive environment. Through short readings and guided prompts, students will explore foundational elements of writing such as imagery, sensory detail, metaphor, voice, and structure.

Participants will complete several short writing exercises in poetry and/or prose, with optional opportunities to share and discuss your work. Emphasis is placed on experimentation, discovery, and developing an authentic voice rather than perfection.

By the end of the session, students will leave with drafts of new writing and practical tools they can continue using in their own creative practice.
